In Social Studies we have been talking about countries around the world and traditions. Some of my family came from Ireland many years ago. St. Patrick's Day is a day that my ancestors celebrated in Ireland a long time ago. Did you know that my favorite holiday is St. Patrick's Day? It hasn't always been my favorite but 13 years ago that changed when my daughter, Kourtni, was born on St. Patrick's Day! At our house we have a tradition to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and Kourtni's birthday together. We all wear green. We have birthday cake that has a St. Patrick's Day theme. We go out for dinner or have our favorite Irish meal, corned beef and cabbage. Kourtni is one of the only kids I know who gets presents for St. Patrick's Day.
This week, I would like you to write about your favorite holiday and the traditions that your family has for that holiday. If you would rather, write about the country that your ancestors came from and what holidays they might celebrate.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday is Easter. My mom and dad hide one egg each night the whole week before Easter for me and my brothers and sister. We each have our own color and we have to search the whole house for it. On Easter day, the bunny hides our Easter baskets at my grandma's house and we search the whole house to find them. I usually find my brothers' and my sister's before me. I am the oldest, so mine is usually the hardest to find. Then we go to Church and after that we have a great big lunch at my grandma's house.
Christmas is my favorite holiday. We put up a tree and decorate it with ornaments. Ethan and I help put up our grandparent's tree, too. It is harder because their tree is fake and we have to put all of the branches in the tree pole.
ReplyDeleteEthan,Mom,Dad,Mackenzie,James, grandpa, grandma,Uncle Adam,Aunt Amy and I come together to open presents at grandma and grandpa's house. We get lots and lots of cool presents. It is a fun holiday.
I love Easter...That was the day Jesus was on a cross and was put in a cave. 3 days later he came back from the dead and that is why we celebrate Easter.

My favorite holiday is Easter. We set out our baskets before we go to bed and the Easter Bunny fills them with presents and candy. One year I got an MP3 player that was pink. We always see Gramma and Grampa's house for Easter and Gramma gives us candy. The town of Normal has an egg hunt that we go to every year. I really love to paint Easter eggs, and my sister eats them when Easter is over. This year I am going to have fun.

Duncan said his favorite holiday is Christmas. On Christmas eve. we try to go to church for Christmas eve service. Duncan and his sister make a small Christmas tree with construction paper and paper towel rolls a few days before Christmas and put it next to the real tree. They also have a game that they play called "Santa Pooh". It's played witth a stuffed Pooh Bear and Scooby Doo as a reindeer. On Christmas Day, their grandmother comes to visit and bring dinner.
